It’s this weekend! DITLO benefits…

Benefits of the Day In the life of Asheville project

For all of us:
Increase our creative energy
Shoot with the authority of a group project
Pay it forward with images donated to benefit future generations
Get comfortable taking pictures of people we don’t know
Feel like a reporter for a day
Make people smile
Meet other photographers, amateur and pro
Participate in an event aimed squarely at the greater good
Learn to better use your camera
Take a break from our daily routine
Focus -literally- on someone else
Love life just a little bit more
Bring order out of chaos
Notice beauty all around us

For gearheads:
Get out and shoot
Use even the obscure features of your digital camera
Break out that really old camera to see if it works
Show off fancy gear at the post event celebration
Meet other gearheads

For professional photographers:
Get guaranteed display space in the Pack library as part of the exhibit
Be rejuvenated by a project that depends on lots of people (not just you)
Gain name recognition
Feel the joy of helping document life in Asheville
Grow from the challenge of thinking about “Ashevilleness”
Be free from the constraints of clients for a day

For film shooters:
Revel in the beauty of film
Have enough time to develop, scan and upload
Shoot with more megapixels than anyone else
Look cool

I can think of more but I’ll stop there. Feel free to list more benefits in the comments.  I look forward to bumping into each of you while out shooting this weekend!

Sincerely,
Clark Mackey

Maybe after we’re done we can demand donuts.

    Hi there!

I’m new to this site and hopefully this will be my first time showing up to take pictures this friday. but I have a question, I’ve looked all over the site, and I can’t see where you all will be meeting this weekend?

could someone tell me where I should go? Thanks

    Kasey~~

    Kasey -

It’s all up to you as far as what you shoot. My recommendation is to set some small personal goals - like “I’ll go shoot 100 frames at the dog park” or “I’m going to talk to five people and get one good portrait” and just build from there.

We won’t meet again as a group until after the photos are uploaded. By that point we’ll plan some kind of celebration and get a video projector rigged up.

    Kasey,
welcome…. not only is it up to you for the where, the when is too. It seems there are a bunch meeting on Fridayat 1030 am at the 51 Grill on Merrimon just north of I-240, another meeting seems to be happening at 5Points diner on Broadway at Chestnut Street on Sat morning shortly after sunrise.

If you have a cool event you want to share, jump in.

Come to a meeting, or go it alone.

Do your thing. If you have questions, let them fly.

    Welcome Kasey!

I’m really excited about this weekend, for sure! I’ve got three music shows I’m shooting during our window, so my photos will probably almost all be inside, but different than everyone else’s… which will be the opposite of the last one where mine were all outside, and with a point and click. :)

This is going to be a really fun one for me, it’s the first event where I have a DSLR. :)

See you all around town this sat. :)

Clark, thank you for this - it’s perfect.

    Welcome, Kasey!

I can’t wait. Sounds like we’re going to get a little rain on Saturday, but Friday looks to be a sunny day.

  8. billinashvegas Says:

    Rain is good.

Ever hear the joke about the two National Geographic photogs meeting in an airport… one says to the other ” How’s it goin? headed out or back?”
“Back,” says the other, “Three weeks in Togo.”
“How was the weather?” says the first
“Terrible! Only rained twice.” replies the second.

The weather is what it is, what you make of it is what makes a great photo.

Hey guys! Thanks for the kind welcome, this sounds like fun :-)

I think I can make it tomorrow to 51 Grill at 10:30…Should I be looking for anyone specifically there or just look for people who have lots of cameras?

Hope to meet some of you there tomorrow!

    Kasey~~

    Kasey,

I’ll be there, as will Zen and several others, far as I know. Cameras will be visible, I’m sure. I may not get there until 10:45.
